The 5 Business Location Advantages
The Location Advantage
St. Pölten is Austria’s only provincial capital to be located in a metropolitan region. Furthermore, the “Vienna Metropolitan Region” is the only one of its kind in Austria. European metropolitan regions are increasingly taking on a role as “national motors”. Cities and urban centres become more important all over the world, since their infrastructure with educational and healthcare facilities is of central significance for the surrounding regions. In addition, St. Pölten – situated “at the heart of Europe” – is proving to be a gateway to the CENTROPE region: one of Europe’s most promising economic areas with approximately six million inhabitants between Vienna, Prague, Bratislava and Budapest. During a work shop, the opportunities and risks for entrepreneurs in Bratislava were discussed.
The Entrepreneur Advantage
St. Pölten has a greatly diversified mix of various small and medium-sized enterprises and large companies such as Voith, Egger Brauerei und Spanplatten, Sunpor, etc. An investment programme of 22.5 million EUR also had a positive effect on the City of St. Pölten’s extraordinary budget in 2009. For 2010, an investment volume of an additional 23.2 million EUR is planned as part of the extraordinary budget.
The Commercial Space Advantage
St. Pölten has plenty of land reserves for industrial use at its disposal. 351.31 hectares are already developed, but approximately 200 additional hectares are still available for businesses. These land reserves and the possibility for entrepreneurs to establish a business on land they can build on make St. Pölten especially attractive as a business location. NIEDERÖSTERREICH CENTRAL, located south of St. Pölten, is one of the largest single areas in the region to be developed into an industrial area. As a first step, 120,000 square metres were made available for marketing and development. But these are not only high-quality spaces – there are also long-term visions behind them that are cultivated by the business location of St. Pölten, as well as smart co-operations companies who settle there will benefit from.
The Infrastructure Advantage
The Lower Austrian provincial capital is situated directly on the high-quality road and rail network and provides access to the nearby Danube port. Approximately two billion EUR are currently being invested in the continued expansion of the transport logistics at and around the location. Part of this is the upgrade of one of Austria’s most modern rail freight corridors.
The Residential Advantage
Last but not least, St. Pölten also is an excellent residential location – whether it is the Vienna Opera, Wachau’s wine region or alpine wilderness: all this can be reached by car within only an hour. In addition, the city offers one of Austria’s most charming baroque-style inner cities.
