ASPERN VIENNA’S URBAN LAKESIDE

An Innovative District for a New Era

Throughout the development of aspern Vienna’s Urban Lakeside, everything revolves around innovation: Starting with a participation-based urban planning process, an innovation quarter, and sustainable and versatile living and working concepts that focus on people’s needs, but can also react flexibly to economic conditions. Those concepts will only last if they are comprehensive, take into consideration future changes and are supported by important partners.

A Great Location for Businesses. aspern iq, an innovation quarter, is Urban Lakeside’s first infrastructural anchor for research-oriented businesses, start-ups and R&D institutions. Businesses that require more than just high-quality office space and well-equipped facilities for technological development are in the right place at aspern iq. With its first tenant, research TUb GmbH, aspern iq offers true value added for the businesses at Urban Lakeside. The subsidiary of the Vienna University of Technology facilitates a targeted know-how and technology transfer, from university to economy and the other way around. This way, small and medium-sized enterprises have the opportunity to access scientific expertise and bring innovation to their own products and services. For the University of Technology, this in turn provides an opportunity to market its own research developments. The goal is an energy-optimized city that uses renewable energies such as solar and geothermal energy and implements the latest building standards (passive house, zero-energy house, and in some cases even energy-plus house). Approximately half of the area is reserved for public space, including streets, plazas, green spaces and recreational areas. The infrastructure that will be available at aspern Urban Lakeside is also ideal for companies with an international focus: A direct metro connection to Vienna’s inner city, tramway and bus connections, a railway connection to Bratislava, and an efficient road network with close proximity to the two international airports of Vienna-Schwechat and Bratislava.
